Christchurch, New Zealand
The 11th WCF World Association Croquet Championship will be held in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Living on the east coast of the South Island at latitude 43 degrees south, Christchurch's 350,000 residents enjoy a temperate climate with warm, dry summers. Christchurch, “the garden city", has many features for visitors to enjoy including the Arts Centre, the Port Hills, beaches, golf courses, horse racing, the Christchurch Tram, the Art Gallery, Antarctic Centre, Casino and the Botanical Gardens among others.
Christchurch has excellent accommodation, restaurants, entertainment and shopping. Public transport is efficient while wide streets mean driving and parking are relatively straight forward.
Christchurch water is pure, tasty and of high quality. There is no need for visitors to drink bottled water.
The city is the gateway to numerous attractions within a two hour drive such as the French village of Akaroa, Banks Peninsula scenery, a host of wineries, the whales of Kaikoura, the thermal springs of Hanmer and the Southern Alps. A little further afield lie Queenstown, Mt Cook and the rugged natural beauty of Westland.
Christchurch's croquet lawns are renowned for their excellent playing characteristics. The sub-soil at United is perfect for generating very firm hoops to thoroughly challenge the world's best. Providing the weather stays good, the lawns can become some of the fastest in the world, to put an emphasis on touch and reward accurate play. With 12 clubs in the city, we are spoilt for choices of good venues and transporting players and spectators around involves short distances and is therefore very easy.
